January 22, 1915 – Over 600 people are killed in Guadalajara, Mexico, when a train plunges off the tracks into a deep canyon.
February 14, 1915 – New Year’s Day in Chinese calendar. Start of the year of the Wood Rabbit in Chinese astrology.
March 14, 1915 – World War I: Cornered off the coast of Chile by the Royal Navy after fleeing the Battle of the Falkland Islands, the German light cruiser SMS Dresden is abandoned and scuttled by her crew.
March 27, 1915 – Typhoid Mary, the first healthy carrier of disease ever identified in the United States, is put in quarantine, where she would remain for the rest of her life.
April 18, 1915 – French pilot Roland Garros is shot down and glides to a landing on the German side of the lines during World War I.
May 1, 1915 – The RMS Lusitania departs from New York City on her two hundred and second, and final, crossing of the North Atlantic. Six days later, the ship is torpedoed off the coast of Ireland with the loss of 1,198 lives, including 128 Americans, rousing American sentiment against Germany.
May 9, 1915 – World War I: Second Battle of Artois between German and French forces.
July 16, 1915 – Henry James becomes a British citizen, to highlight his commitment to England during the first World War.
August 17, 1915 – Jewish American Leo Frank is lynched for the alleged murder of a 13-year-old girl in Marietta, Georgia, United States.
August 29, 1915 – US Navy salvage divers raise F-4, the first U.S. submarine sunk in accident.
