January 28, 1945 – World War II: Supplies begin to reach the Republic of China over the newly reopened Burma Road.
January 31, 1945 – US Army private Eddie Slovik is executed for desertion, the first such execution of an American soldier since the Civil War.

April 15, 1945 – The Bergen-Belsen concentration camp is liberated.
April 22, 1945 – World War II: Prisoners at the Jasenovac concentration camp revolt. 520 are killed and 80 escape.
April 25, 1945 – Elbe Day: United States and Soviet troops meet in Torgau along the River Elbe, cutting the Wehrmacht of Nazi Germany in two, a milestone in the approaching end of World War II in Europe.
August 30, 1945 – The Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Douglas MacArthur lands at Atsugi Air Force Base.
